IBM is all set to unveil a new product in its PureSystems line, aimed at simplifying the day-to-day process by which companies handle big data and its associated problems.
AllThingsD reports that details of the new product are pretty sketchy so far – all that’s been revealed is that this will be IBM’s third offering in its PureSystems product line, and has been given the codename “Project Sparta”. The website said that IBM is planning to make an official announcement in Boston on October 9.
PureSystems, which was first unveiled back in April of this year, is Big Blue’s effort to bundle all of the systems needed to handle big data and its associated storage problems into one, easy-to-use package. The company claims that its “expert integrated systems” can reduce set up time in data centers from the usual four months to just ten days, whilst also saving companies as much as five times the cost of setting up traditional storage systems.
So far IBM has released two offerings under the PureSystems banner – PureApplications, which is configured to handle web and database transactions, and PureFlex, an integrated computing, data storage, systems management and networking machine designed for easier deployment within data centers.
AllThingsD reported that IBM refused to comment on the nature of its newest product, but seems to believe that it’s all but certain that whatever it does showcase will be the third installment of its PureSystems data management and analysis tools, given the way IBM has been ramping up its efforts in the cloud-computing space in recent months.
Separately, it’s been revealed that IBM’s share price rose almost 1% following the news, which experts believe is a sign that investors see just as much potential in making data valuable to businesses as IBM does.
