ZocDoc “Checks In” So You Can Check Out Faster

ZocDoc, the web-based medical booking platform that allows users to find and book appointments with doctors online, has added a new feature to its service that aims to speed up the whole ‘checking in’ process by letting patients fill out those irritating medical forms before they arrive.

Known simply as “Check-In”, the new feature will be free for patients, while medical providers that already pay $250 a month to use ZocDoc will not be charged anything more. Patients and doctors alike will both benefit, as from now on those forms will only ever have to be filled out once – after that, ZocDoc will save the patient’s information ahead of future visits to their clinic.

ZocDoc says that Check-In has been introduced due to user demand – it was the most-requested feature in a survey of current users. The service will be rolled out gradually however, with only 10% of ZocDoc customers being able to use it initially, with the rest getting access over the next few weeks.

Cyrus Massoumi, CEO of ZocDoc, said that his ultimate aim is to see medical providers do away with the clipboard, and make it easier for patients to receive the medical care they need.

“Improving patients’ experience and offering more convenient ways to see a doctor are just a few of the ways we will strive to transform healthcare in the coming months and years,” said Massoumi.

Since its inception back in 2007, ZocDoc has caught on like wildfire among healthcare providers, and now serves around 1/3 of the US population, covering 31 metro areas and more than 1,400 cities in the United States.

The platform has also received some serious venture capital funding from its partners in recent years, totaling $95 million from investors such as DST Global, Khosla Ventures and Goldman Sachs, among others.

ZocDoc’s ongoing success is a positive sign for the healthcare sector, which is seen as a very attractive industry for tech companies, yet also one of the most difficult to break into.
