IBM PureSystems Gaining Tractions Among MSPs

The latest from IBM is that Altus IT and Torres Network, two fairly large managed service providers, have deployed its PureSystems in their data centers. The Big Blue says that these most recent wins reiterate a trend that has seen MSPs choose its appliances over other solutions, such Oracle’s rivaling Exa line-up of ‘engineered systems’.

Altus’s client base consists mostly of mid to large sized enterprises in the oil and gas, pharmaceutical and telecommunication industries. The firm offers its services in nine countries including  the US, and says that the release cycle of new offerings has been reduced by 60 percent thanks to the PureSystems roll out.

Torres Network in turn looked for hardware to support a new test environment for their software, and they chose IBM’s appliances for the job. The Bangalore-based provider offers carriers and telcoms software that can help them scale their networks.

“Our need for the latest, scalable IT infrastructure for consistent results for testing our solutions while ensuring high performance was crucial,” said V.Jude Pragash, Director – Engineering, Torres Networks. “We decided to do complete hardware overhaul and only IBM PureSystems offered a highly scalable platform that met the needs of our customers and was also manageable from remote locations.”

IBM’s PureSystems consolidates storage, network and compute in one place, making it considerably easier for the user to deploy the solution in their environment. This costs the client a premium and doesn’t offer as much flexibility as more open systems, but each of the three appliances in the line-up packs quite a value proposition for their respective use cases.

The latest addition to the product family, PureData, was officially unveiled yesterday. The system is specifically built to process big data workloads and comes in three configurations tweaked for different types of analytics.
