MuleSoft Picks Up ProgrammableWeb, Puts Latest Funding Round to Work

MuleSoft has set out to become the ultimate “go-to destination for APIs and integration,” an ambitious goal made more attainable by the $37 million it secured in a recent Series E funding round  led by NEA.  This morning, the San Francisco-based SaaS integration firm showed its investors that it’s making good use of their money.

MuleSoft shelled out an undisclosed sum for ProgrammableWeb, a leading API directory and community portal operator credited as the first company to evangelize APIs. The site of the same name is home to nearly 9000 interfaces and over 7000 mashups, as well as a community section that releases daily industry news, case studies, tools and other freebies that developers love.

“APIs are the catalyst for a new era of hyperconnectivity, and our acquisition of ProgrammableWeb underscores our commitment to connect the New Enterprise,” said Greg Schott, president and CEO of MuleSoft. “Together with ProgrammableWeb, we’re extending our platform to give customers and developers a single, authoritative voice on APIs and a centralized venue for resources that enables developers and companies to fully embrace the API phenomenon.”

ProgrammableWeb will continue to function as an independent business unit within MuleSoft. The company hinted that it may integrate the directory with its flagship Anytime Platform, an enterprise integration solution that launched earlier this month.

The Anytime Platform is an integrated suite of products that consists of connectors, the open-source Mule ESB integration platform, and an integration platform-as-a-service solution called CloudHub. The bundle also includes a set of toolkits for developing connectors and APIs, a governance system, and a data mapping tool.
