Nexus 7 Leaks Ahead of Google Press Event

Google will be holding a press event on the 24th of July and we have a fairly good idea as to what Chrome and Android chief Sundar Pichai will be talking about – almost certainly the new Nexus 7.

Leaks have surfaced about a new Nexus 7 that’s set to hit the stores by next week.  Based on a leaked inventory document from an anonymous tipster, the retailers will be receiving the inventory as early as the 20th of this month, but consumers won’t probably see the device on the shelves until the 24th, which is when Pichai is scheduled to reveal the product at the press event.

The new Nexus 7 will be placed alongside the old Nexus 7 in stores for demo purposes.  It will feature a 7” LCD display, 1.2MP in front with a new 5MP rear camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. In addition, it’ll have 4GB of DDR3L RAM, a microUSB for charging, power and volume rocker buttons, run Android 4.2.2, and will likely be available in both 16 and 32GB storage options.

Based on the leaked photos, the tablet still looks a lot like the original, but the back panel seems to have lost its textured finish.  The back panel of the new Nexus 7 looks matte with a smooth finish instead.

As for the price of the thing, it’s believed that the new Nexus 7 tablet will be on sale at $269.99 for the 32GB model, and $230 for the 16GB model.

That’s a fairly significant price discrepancy between first and second versions; remember that the old one sold for just $199 with 16GB of storage, so the hike could be an indication that the new device will be packing some new, awesome features that Google’s so far kept under wraps.

We’ll have to wait until next week to find out what Google and Asus has in store for its fans.
