Full Specs : iPhone 5c + 5s [Launched Today]

Apple has finally unveiled the iPhone 5c and 5s, and most of the rumors turned out to be true.  So let’s dissect the devices and see what Apple has changed or improved.

iPhone 5c

  • Case + colors

As rumors suggested, the iPhone 5c’s cover is plastic — more specifically, hard polycarbonate that comes in white, pink, yellow, blue and green.  To add some form of customization, you can purchase silicon microfiber cases for $29 that comes in the same color of the iPhone 5c, plus black.  It has holes in it so even if you put one on your phone, you can still see the phone’s color. So you can either match the color, or pick one that contrasts to make it stand out.  Also, the color of the wallpaper matches the phone’s polycarbonate body.

  • Battery life

For the specs, it’s the same as the old  iPhone 5 except it promises a longer battery life: 10 hours talk time on 3G, 250 hours standby time, 8 hours 3G internet surfing, 10 hours on LTE, 10 hours on WiFi, 10 hours video playback and 4 hours audio playback. It also has a steel structure for the antenna which makes it better for acquiring signal.

  • Specs

Other features include a 4” screen with oleophobic coating, A6 chip, Assisted GPS and GLONASS, Digital compass, WiFi, Lightning connector, 8MP iSight camera, f2.4 aperture, LED flash, five element lens, hybrind IR filter, 1080p HD video recording, 1.2MP FaceTime camera, Siri, Three-axis gyro, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, built-in apps, comes with EarPods with mic and remote, and uses nano SIM.

  • Price

For the price, it’s $99 for the 16GB version, and $199 on the 32GB version for a two-year carrier contract.  Off contract, the 16GB version sells for $549.  You can pre-order the 5C on September 13, or camp out on September 20 to purchase it in Apple Stores.

iPhone 5s

  • Color + case

The iPhone 5s is available in silver, gold and space gray, described as a “forward-thinking iPhone.”  Everything is aluminum, but two-toned, no more glass in the back.  It also has leather casings that comes in various colors priced at $39 but I think the cases just makes the iPhone 5s ugly.

  • Fingerprint sensor + security

The most noticeable change in the iPhone 5s is that the home button is missing the square in the middle — that’s because it now has a fingerprint sensor, dubbed Touch ID, which you can use to unlock your phone quickly or purchase items on iTunes instead of entering your password.

The home button is made up of sapphire glass, the same material that protects the 8MP iSight camera, with a metal ring that matches the color on the back, and the fingerprint sensor is beneath the glass.  All information is stored in the new A7 chip which makes it secured.  It is the first 64-bit smartphone with the iOS 7 specifically built for the 64-bit architecture.  Display has the same resolution as the iPhone 5 and 5c.

  • Camera

Almost the same specs as the original except the iPhone 5s has a new 5-element, Apple-designed lens with f2.2 aperture, and takes multiple photos but only shows you the best photo, and has a True Tone flash so taking photos in any lighting condition won’t affect the quality of the photo.  It also has a new M7 chip, which is a motion coprocessor making it a better fitness tracker.

Other features include 8MP iSight camera with 1.5µ pixels, hybrid IR filters, 4” screen with oleophobic coating, 1.2MP iSight camera, slo-mo video recording, Siri, native apps, Three-axis gyro, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, comes with EarPods with remote and mic, uses nano SIM.

  • Price

Priced at $199 for the 16GB, $299 for the 32GB, and $399 for the 64GB and will be available on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.  No pre-order date for the iPhone 5s as it will be available in stores on September 20, same as the 5c.
