Track Your Kids with FiLIP – the Smarwatch for Kids

These days, you’ll think nothing of kids below 10 years old tapping on a smartphone.  It’s not their parent’s smartphone, it’s their very own smartphone.  Some see nothing wrong with this as it helps the parents keep tabs on their kids, but on the downside it might make them more interested in playing games on their phones instead of actually engaging in physical activities.

For those who don’t see smartphones as the answer to keeping tabs on their kids, then they might consider the FiLIP.

FiLIP is a smartwatch directed at kids aged 4 to 11.  This will not only help parents keep track of their children’s whereabouts, but also communicate with them either via a short message or voice call.

The FiLIP is made out of durable plastic but is comfortable to be worn even when playing. It is designed to withstand kids activities such as playing outdoors, getting wet in the rain, getting dirty, but it is not advisable to be worn when swimming.

It has a touch interface and two buttons: one for calling 5 preset contacts, and an emergency button.  When the red emergency button is pressed for three seconds, it sends out a message to those five contacts informing them of the GPS location of the kid, while FiLIP starts recording ambient sounds around the device.  Then the FiLIP will initiate a call to the first preset contact.  If the first contact doesn’t pick up, it will call the next four preset contacts until someone picks up.

FiLIP uses 2-way GSM cellular voice capability so you can call your kid or your kid can call you.  For location, FiLIP uses a combination of GPS, cell tower location and Wi-Fi triangulation so you can easily find your kid indoor or outdoor.  It is uniquely designed, complying with the strictest safety tests and FCC requirements, and only emits radio energy when active, and to direct that energy away from the child.

It comes in different colors so your kid can choose his or her favorite color.  And it pairs up with an Android or iOS app that lets you contact and locate your kids.  Using the mobile app, parents can also set Safe Zones.  You can set schools as Safe Zones so when your kid arrives in school, it pushes a notification to your mobile device.  You can also set the perimeter of a Safe Zone so if your kid leaves the Safe Zone you get alerted, or if you define an area as not safe and your kid ventures into that restricted area, you also get alerted.  Parents can send text messages to the FiLIP but the kid cannot send text messages.  They can call their parents if they want to get in touch with them using the smartwatch.  The app also allows the parents to monitor multiple FiLIPs, making it easier for them to keep track of their children’s whereabouts.

AT&T has partnered with FiLIP Technologies as the device’s network provider, distributor, and billing service.
