Here is a recap of the six must reads from SiliconANGLE this week. Lots to catch up on, so lets dive right in.
Consumer tech is on a high this week, with Apple’s launch of the iPad Air, and updates to the rest of the iPad line. Wearable tech is also reaching a boiling point, with fitness trackers leading the charge. Rivals are doing their best to topple the FuelBand SE, Nike’s recently released fitness band, with more function and new fashion.
On the enterprise side, Hadoop took center stage this week as we prepare for #BigDataNYC, theCUBE’s official event during Big Data Week in the Big Apple. We’ll be streaming live broadcasts, hearing from top executives and thought leaders on Hadoop’s place in the enterprise market.

I’ve got a fever…and the only prescription is more wearable tech. The tidal wave that is connected devices is signaling a shift in consumer interest from smartphones to wearable gadgets. We’ve been covering this seismic shift in connected devices on SiliconANGLE over the past year, and in the last month we’ve had AT&T jump into the smartwatch market with Pebble and Nike go to +1 levels of high-tech fitness bands.

Jeffrey Kelly of Wikibon wrote a special coverage piece this week on SiliconANGLE about the release of Hortonworks Data Platform 2.0. The release boasts a YARN-based architecture designed to make HDP a true multi-application platform. In short, HDP can now also tackle SQL-like analytics, graph analysis and other analytic workloads. Which begs the question, is Hadoop finally ready for the enterprise?

Bitcoin has been one heck of a roller coaster the last few weeks. First there was Silk Road’s demise and the subsequent rush of increased press and popularity. Now there is the news of the Chinese and Baidu testing Bitcoin on its marketplace. Is Bitcoin on the way up and with staying power? Or is the crypto-currency building another bubble that is bound to pop?
.
We have remained politically neutral in our coverage of the healthcare.gov website fiasco. The fact remains, that technology speaking, its been a disaster. This week, President Barack Obama addressed the numerous technical issues surrounding the ACA website focusing less on the “what” and more on the “glitch”. The task to patch up, fix, and overhaul the system is going to be a long and costly fix-campaign.
