Apigee acquires InsightsOne to bake predictive analytics into API platform

Reigning in cloud fragmentation represents a multi-billion dollar opportunity for API management providers. But with the competition heating upthe fight for relevance is moving beyond abstracting programming interfaces. That’s the reason API management provider Apigee forayed into Big Data earlier this year with Apigee Insights, a Big Data offering that Apigee’s hoping to round out through their newly announced acquisition this week of InsightsOne.

Founded in 2010 by a team of veteran technologists from Microsoft, IBM and Yahoo, InsightsOne develops predictive analytics solutions that provide decision makers with deeper insights into consumer behavior. The startup helps large companies in the healthcare, financial services, telecommunications and e-commerce sectors pull real-time data to improve customer experience and address shifts in user sentiment as they happen.

KXEN, a San Francisco-based startup that was acquired by SAP in September, offers a similar technology for proactively identifying new revenue streams.

Like SAP, Apigee will leverage the buy to bake predictive capabilities into its existing products. Apigee is looking to make InsightsOne available as part of its integrated digital business platform within six months. “The InsightsOne technology will not replace Apigee Insights, but rather, it will expand Apigee’s Big Data capabilities,” Chet Kapoor, CEO of Apigee, told siliconANGLE.

According to Kapoor, success in today’s mobile-first digital world requires a single vision that spans and connects business and technology. “In this new world,” he said, “the business intelligence and context gleaned through the massive amount of Big Data available about customers, products, developers–every part of a digital business–must be tightly integrated with technology infrastructure to effect real change.”

Apigee also recently announced that Waqar Hasan, co-founder and CEO of InsightsOne, is joining Apigee’s executive team. “Hasan will play a key role in the continued development of the InsightsOne technology at Apigee,” Kapoor said. “Apigee will provide further information about the integration in the coming months.”
