Ansible brings DevOps automation to cloud with AWS marketplace
Ansible, the open source software solution for remote configuration management, announced the availability of Ansible Tower AMIs on the AWS Marketplace. Ansible Tower is enterprise-class automation designed for teams, featuring a great web app and REST API that helps you empower your entire configuration management and app deployment solution.
As organizations increasingly seek seamless continuous delivery to cloud environments, the need for tools to automate deployment becomes more and more acute. Tower includes powerful cloud features that dynamically sync with your Amazon AWS and Rackspace inventory and can assist with auto-scaling.
“The importance of getting your automation and configuration management right in the cloud can’t be understated,” said Michael Coté, Research Director for Infrastructure at 451 Research. “The agility and efficiency of relying on cloud to support your applications and services requires almost complete, seamless automation. In our market surveys we’ve seen a sharp rise in the use of the new type of automation that Ansible comes from. As more people move their IT to cloud services, expect to see that interest keep growing.”
The open source Ansible automation engine preconfigured with Ansible Tower AMIs on AWS provides simple automation language and agentless architecture. The architecture is designed for various deployment options and uses industry-standard SSH to communicate with managed nodes. Ansible controls nodes on SSH and does not require any remote software agent to operate. The system uses YAML to define descriptions of reusable systems form. The automation helps cloud and software development teams, data center operations and enterprise IT organizations configure and automate essential IT systems at the speed.
The tower Auto Scaling feature enhances instances on AWS by spinning up new server instances as applications spike in load or instances fail. In addition, Tower’s unique callback feature automatically deploys applications and configures the instances Ansible says Tower AMIs on the AWS Marketplace supports EC2, ELB, S3, VPC, ElastiCache and Route 53 out-of-the-box. The Tower is capable of managing up to 250 machine instances.
The free version of Tower can manage up to 10 EC2 instances, but users need to pay AWS hourly cost for the Tower AMI. The commercial version costs as low as $250 per month for more than ten EC2 instances.
