iTunes Festival app updated for SXSW 2014, no iOS 7.1

itunes festival appFanboys who can’t attend SXSW 2014 now have the opportunity to watch performances live or immediately right after, as the iTunes Festival app has been updated, and those in the US can now download the app on the App Store.

Version 5.0 of the iTunes Festival app sports a fresh design and now features iTunes Festival at SXSW.  iTunes Festival has been live in the UK since 2007, and this is the first time that it has been opened to fanboys in the US.

The iTunes Festival at SXSW will be taking over ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, and will feature top performers such as Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Keith Urban, Pitbull, to name a few.

Now for the bad news, it seems like we won’t be seeing iOS 7.1 anytime soon.  Earlier this week, it was reported that the iTunes Festival app will only be compatible with devices running iOS 7.1, which meant that Apple will be releasing the software update before the Music part of SXSW 2014 which starts on March 11.  No news as to when the iOS update will be released.

In other Apple news…

 .

In other Apple news, the Cupertino giant has released the beta version of OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 to developers and have asked developers to focus on Graphics Drivers and Audio during testing.  Aside from fixing more bugs which were not addressed in the recent 10.9.2 update which fixed the gotofail bug, 10.9.3 is building support for 4K monitors.

According to 9to5Mac, the update allows Mac users to natively set 4K monitors to run the Mac operating system at a pixel-doubled “Retina” resolution, which means a clearer and sharper display.

Before, when Mac users connected their Macs on a 4K monitor, the display just becomes larger and more spread out and some resorted to using unofficial hacks just to be able to run Macs at a Retina/pixel-doubled resolution.

Another matter to look into is that this update may signify that Apple may soon be launching a 4K standalone monitor, or iMacs with 4K display.
