VMware Inc. and Capgemini S.A. have entered a partnership to help large organizations manage the influx of employee-owned devices into the workplace in the wave called bring-your-own-everything (BYOx). The agreement between the virtualization giant and one of the largest global providers of IT consulting and outsourcing services extends their long-running partnership to yet another of the megatrends converging on the corporate network.
Under the agreement, Capgemini will provide companies with assistance in implementing the AirWatch mobility management platform that VMware obtained through the $1.5 billion acquisition of its namesake developer earlier this year. The software serves more than 10,000 organizations in 150 countries, according to the vendor, including top airlines and a number of major retailers.
Capgemini plans to cover the entire solution lifecycle, starting with the initial planning and assessment stage. The Paris-based consulting firm promises to help customers implement AirWatch, integrate their deployments with existing systems and shoulder the burden of ongoing maintenance.
Capgemini is also offering a set of “extended services” that includes migrating devices from competing management platforms, developing custom applications, extending AirWatch to meet specific demands and integrating it with analytical solutions. The firm will also provide training for organizations that are reluctant to trust the maintenance of their mobile environments to a third party.
The consultancy had previously teamed with VMware to deliver a joint product-service bundle based on VMware’s virtualization and management software and aimed at enabling customers to get more from their cloud investments. Under the terms of the new deal, organizations have the choice of deploying AirWatch on-premise, at a remote location operated on their behalf by a provider or consume it as a service.
