Enterprises should become data driven even though they are still in the infancy of adopting data within IT, according to CIO Strategic Advisor Tim Crawford. The AVOA executive expects that IT departments will become more involved with their respective organizations holistically, cautioning that a lot of work still needs to be done around cloud and infrastructure.

In Crawford’s live interview with theCUBE co-hosts Dave Vellante and John Furrier at IBM Insight, he explained that in order to adopt Big Data strategies, an enterprise needs to create an inclusive cloud strategy. Adopting Big Data is “a whole different methodology; it’s a whole different process,” he explained.

In traditional enterprises, CIOs must deal with a different challenge – new aspects they should take advantage of. But they also have a legacy portfolio and not always the financial resources to move past that stage. “The challenge is how quickly you can move through that shift,” he said.
