CubeAlum takes over as Yahoo VP of Corporate Applications & Platforms: Recalling Ben Haines’ days at Box

Former Box Inc. CIO, and theCUBE alum, Ben Haines, now works for Yahoo! Inc. as VP of Corporate Applications and Platforms, according to a Yahoo spokesperson via the CIO Journal. Yahoo, however, did not release information about Haines’ responsibilities or to whom he now reports. According to Haines’ LinkedIn page, he’s been in this new role since November.

It looks like Yahoo is revamping its senior executive team, as the company hired Mike Kail — former Netflix Inc. IT chief — as CIO and SVP of Infrastructure just a few months ago. But Netflix sued Kail last week, alleging he took “kickbacks” from vendors while on the job at Netflix.

In an email to CIO Journal, Box reps said, “We are grateful to Ben for his work at Box and wish him the best in his new role.”

Recalling his days at Box, transitioning to tech

Haines’ position at Box was his first role in the tech sector after many years in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) space, he shared during an interview with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s roving news desk.

“It’s been an interesting ride,” he told theCUBE, adding that the transition from CPG to high-tech was a little bumpy at the start.

Of his role at Box, he said, “What I find interesting is even though it is consumer tech, we still have the same issues as a CIO. We have lots of systems to get the business done. We have lots of data and lots of challenges. And, so, while we might solve them a little bit differently, a few high-level discussions, let’s say, with our tech folks, we have the same issues. Lots to work through.”

Prior to joining Box, Haines worked at Hostess Brands LLC and Pabst Brewing Co. as CIO.
