The launch of on-demand products and services from Hewlett Packard Co. comes as a response to customer requests. “We’ve gotten a lot of requests for cloud offerings of our products, and that’s just a natural progression from where we’ve been [on premise],” said Colin Mahony, SVP & GM, HP Software Big Data in his live interview from HP Discover Barcelona with theCUBE. “The HAVEn on-demand offering has IDOL and Vertica on-demand as its first two components,” Mahony said, adding that “IDOL on demand is actually free for now and customers can test it.”
Cloud is a great place to collect data, as Mahony explained that “people want to bring that data in — to do that, naturally you have to go to a certain type of cloud that is built beyond your premise.”
Taking the conversation around data liability further to the new Big Data group within HP, Mahony stated that “all successful Big Data projects happened because the business and analytics people were able to communicate efficiently.”
