For a monthly fee you can now have unlimited access to over 2,000 magazines, including old issues, through Magzter Gold. There is a wide variety of categories ranging from automotive, business, cooking, weddings and everything in between, with titles including Maxim, Inc., Top Gear and Fast Company.

The Magzter app has been around since June 2011 and at the end of 2013 they raised $10 million in a round of Series B funding, with investors being led by Singapore Press Holdings.

Up to now Magzter focused on a traditional purchase model whereby customers had to buy each magazine individually. With the launch of Magzter Gold, all of this changes and customers now have the option of unlimited reading for $9.99 per month. They have also launched a Magzter Gold Lite version which will give you access to any five titles per month, with the ability to change your chosen titles each month, at a cost of $4.99 per month.

Searching through over 2,000 magazines to find the magazines that interest you is overwhelming. To make it easier when you first open the Magzter app it will ask about your interests, so that the app can provide you with some personalized recommendations.

This however is not a new concept and Magzter Gold does face some competition from the likes of Readly and Next Issue. For the same $9.99 price tag per month, you get access to over 850 magazines, including back issues through Readly.

The Next Issue app was a joint venture between six leading publishers – Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp., Rogers Communications and Time Inc. For $9.99 per month you get access to 140 titles, while you will need to pay $14.99 per month for their Premium package, to have unlimited access to weekly magazines like Time and The New Yorker. The Next Issue service is only available in the U.S. and Canada. In December 2014, Next Issue Media received $50 million in funding from global investment firm KKR.

Like its competitors, Magzter is available on iOS and Android phones and tablets as well as Windows 8 PCs and tablets.
