Pixie, the ‘Location of Things’ solution, finds your stuff via augmented reality Ever lost your smartphone? Or forgot your laptop charger at home, only to realize you desperately need a charge when you arrive at a meeting? Pixie wants to help you keep track of exactly where your stuff is. It lets you tag your valuables, turn them into a connected network and helps you find them through an app with an augmented reality interface.

Developed by Pixie Technology Inc., the ‘Location of Things’ platform is made up of low energy smart tags, called Pixie Points, that you can attach to items you are likely to misplace or leave behind, and the dedicated Pixie app to control the tags and locate items.

The Pixie Points are constantly connected to each other and sync their location to their owner’s Pixie app. Triangulation allows the owner to pinpoint an item’s location down to inches, according to the developers. An augmented reality display shows the ‘missing’ item on the smartphone screen with an ‘X marks the spot’, even if an item is on the other side of a wall or buried between sofa cushions.

What makes it really stand out is the ability to create ‘kits’ of stuff that usually belong together; for example, a user could create a kit for their work bag and attach a Pixie Point to a laptop, charger and  iPad. Users are automatically notified via the Pixie app if they are leaving with an incomplete kit. Or, this writer’s favorite, create a travel kit and never forget your passport again.

Pixie Points can be attached to just about any item you can think of: keys, wallets, the TV remote, your kid’s favorite toy, your pet or even an expensive drone. A demo video (watch below) released by the company shows a user locating an iPad that was left behind in a car from inside the house.

Pixie is an open platform and the company said it will provide developers with a set of tools to build alternative apps for the use with Pixie Pints on the technology.

Pixie Points can be pre-ordered now and will ship this summer. A pre-sale pack of four Pixie Points, adapters for key rings and pet collars and curved surfaces costs $39.95.
