CliQr Technologies Inc. has snagged $20 million in fresh funding from some of the biggest names On the technology investment scene for its cloud management platform. As the name suggests, the patent-pending software is claimed to reduce the usually painful process of deploying workloads across on- and off-premise infrastructure to a few clicks.
At the heart of the value proposition is a modeling system that allows administrators to encapsulate the operational requirements of an application in a high-level description decoupled from the underlying environment. CliQr’s platform stores the specifications in the form of templates that are adapted to a wide variety of different settings, including everything from traditional virtual environments to OpenStack-powered public clouds.
The company further claims that its software tunes the implementation of templates based on the unique characteristics of each location, which removes the complexity of manual workload optimization After that, deploying an application becomes a matter of setting the target destination and clicking through the installation wizard.
That’s in stark contrast to the countless man-hours historically involved in moving enterprise processes. CliQr says it not only simplifies the initial deployment phase but everything from there onward. The abstracted nature of the platform enables organizations to quickly change the configuration of workloads as user needs evolve without having to wait months for the operations team to catch up.
The platform attempts to extend that simplicity to management of individual implementations as well with centralized controls for enforcing which users can access what application and to what extent. Complementing that administrative functionality are monitoring capabilities that allow operators to check if everything is working as intended, compare the performance of different deployments and set alerts for events such as when a particular workload meets its template’s capacity limits.
Rounding out the package is a marketplace that allows organizations to offer end-users a selection of applications to provision on their own. CliQr attempt to be a comprehensive solution has caught the attention of Google Ventures, which increased its stake in the startup as part of the new $20 million round alongside fellow existing backers Foundation Capital and TransLink Capital.
The funding was led by new investor Polaris Partners, whose Gary Swart is joining the board as part of the move. CliQr plans to spend the new capital, which bumps its total above $38 million, on expanding global operations.
