Pinterest launches new API tools to help marketers

Pinterest Marketing Developer PartnersPinterest has announced a new program called Marketing Developer Partners (MDP), which will provide new tools to allow businesses to better utilize Pinterest as a platform to advertise their goods and services.

“People use Pinterest to plan their future, which is why content from businesses is essential in helping people discover the creative things they want to do next,” Pinterest’s Jyri Kidwell wrote in a blog post. “With the right Pin, you can inspire someone to take action, whether that’s saving an idea for later or making a purchase from your website.”

The new program involves partnerships with several developers who are able to use Content Publishing API. These include Ahalogy, Buffer, Curalate, Expion, Newscred, Percolate, Shoutlet, Spredfast, Sprinklr and Tailwind. These partners are now all able to take advantage of Pinterest’s API to automate pins the same way they already automate tweets and status updates, making it easier for businesses to manage marketing campaigns on Pinterest.

“The MDP is made up of a limited, carefully selected group of developer partners who meet the needs of existing businesses on Pinterest and align with our core value of putting Pinners first,” Kidwell wrote. “We’re committed to helping these developers build custom tools and services on our APIs so businesses can use Pinterest more effectively.”

Pinterest is also testing out a new Ads API in the U.S., which will allow advertisers to track and display ad content on Pinterest directly through the backend software. The new advertising platform will allow marketers to pay for promoted pins for greater visibility. Only a few partners are currently able to take advantage of the Ads API beta, and Kidwell says that the tool is “in the early days of testing.”

You can find more information about the marketing program on the new MDP homepage.
