Tamir Segal, senior manager of Product Marketing at EMC XtremIO, sat down with David Floyer and Jeff Frick of theCUBE at EMC World 2015 to talk about flash storage and business continuity.
The interview began with a question about the impact XtremIO has had on the datacenter environment. Segal explained that flash storage systems like XtremIO are disruptive, sending changes through the entire ecosystem. The benefits of XtremIO allow a company to consolidate many workloads into one system.
The conversation then focused on business continuity, and how XtremIO protects the data. One of those ways involves instant snapshots of the data. The same technology that allows these snapshots also gives XtremIO the power to run easy and quick replication. The system can even do this while maintaining performance.
“You should not think about the legacy array approach,” Segal said.
The ability to create snapshots and private copies of the data also enables teams to build their own instances for testing and QA without having to buy into more hardware. This gives a company more confidence, and a rather nice cost savings.
XtremIO offers an advantage with its incredible speed, but that’s not the only benefit to an all-flash array. Snapshots, replication, copies and ease of use also help to make it an attractive package.
As for what’s next in the world of XtremIO, Segal mentioned it would be working on data services for all-flash arrays. “Think about how powerful XtremIO is, what it is enabling, and think about what an API for that can enable in the future,” he said.
