Kerry Bailey, SVP of Cloud at HP, and Andrew Cox, SVP of Cloud Platform Solutions at Synchronoss Technologies, Inc., joined theCUBE at HP Discover 2015 to talk about the shift to Cloud among enterprises.
At Synchronoss, a provider of mobile device activation and backup solutions for carriers and individuals, the infrastructure is crucially important, especially for their backup applications, according to Cox.
“It doesn’t take that much effort to manage all the activation processes even for a large number of carriers, but where our infrastructure has really grown is in the mobile device backup area,”he explained. “So we’re operating platforms now where we’re backing up hundreds of terabytes of data a day, petabytes and petabytes a month, and have had to really adapt our strategy to be able to support that.”
For Bailey, the question is still, “Where are enterprises in this overall Cloud adoption?”
He said he expected to see much more activity after almost a decade of Cloud availability. “Reality is, enterprises are still early in the journey,” Bailey said. “And I think that’s been probably the biggest surprise we’ve had.”
Even Synchronoss, which is linked to the Internet of Things and mobile, is still pretty early in that journey.
“You look where we are right now; we’ve said private Cloud is the path to hybrid. And it has been true,” Bailey added. “It will be a multi-Cloud world. There is no doubt about it. We’re embracing public Cloud, we’re embracing private Cloud, but we know ultimately it is the connection of those two that these applications and workloads are going to run, period, for enterprises as they move.”
Cox said that after trying to build its own Cloud, Syncronoss finds the HP solutions very appealing— making the Cloud much more accessible for enterprises.
“The thing that’s attractive to us about the Helion platform, the Helion service provider network, is we can start to transition to leverage the technology and the services that HP and their partners can provide us,” Cox said. “We can focus more on our software, the relationship with our customers, and also finding a good match between the location of the service providers and the location of our customers.”
