Barely two days after its release, the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight has been pulled from digital store shelves due to the game’s awful performance.
Arkham Knight was released on Tuesday to very positive reviews on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but the PC release suffered from stuttering, frame rate drops, crashes and memory leaks. This created a huge backlash amongst PC-using Arkham fans, many of whom clamored for refunds for the game.
The creators of Arkham Knight, developer Rocksteady Studios and its publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Inc., quickly released a statement saying that they are working on a solution, and they later released a guide on what settings to use to make the game at least playable.
As the backlash continues to mount, however, Rocksteady and Warner Bros. have decided to suspend further sales on Arkham Knight for PC until the issues can be fixed. Users who already purchased the game can still continue playing — if they can get it to run, that is.
The game creators wrote on a Steam Community page:
We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards. We greatly value our customers and know that while there are a significant amount of players who are enjoying the game on PC, we want to do whatever we can to make the experience better for PC players overall.
Thank you to those players who have already given valuable feedback. We are continuously monitoring all threads posted in the Official Batman: Arkham Knight Community and Steam forums, as well as any issues logged with our Customer Support. If you purchased your copy of the game and are not satisfied with your experience, then we ask for your patience while these issues are resolved. […]
The Batman: Arkham fans have continually supported the franchise to its current height of success, and we want to thank you for your patience as we work to deliver an updated version of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC so you can all enjoy the final chapter of the Batman: Arkham series as it was meant to be played.
While Warner Bros hopes that fans will wait out the troubleshooting period, the publisher said that consumers can request a refund from retailers “if desired.”
THANK YOU
