JDS Uniphase Corp. (JDSU) is currently undergoing work to separate the company into two strategic entities called Lumentum and Viavi Solutions. As part of the separation process, the company needed to consolidate, simplify, modernize and migrate all of its applications onto a new environment, according to Rajeev Sethi, senior director of IT applications at JDSU. The Oracle Cloud has been integral in that process.
Sethi informed theCUBE‘s John Furrier and Dave Vellante that JDSU was a very heavy user of Oracle technology. In addition, he stated that Cloud has been a part of JDSU’s strategy for the past three years. And shortly before the Keynote at the Oracle Cloud Launch Event, Sethi revealed that 25% of the company’s applications were already in the Cloud.
“Oracle is a key partner for us,” he continued. Sethi described Oracle as “full service running our applications on a platform, integrating our applications on that platform, because not one of those applications can deliver all the capabilities for a billion-dollar company. So how do we integrate those applications?… We are leveraging a lot of Oracle’s platform, the Oracle database and Java Cloud.”
Due to the ongoing work to separate the companies, expediency has been a significant factor in the process.
However, Sethi assured theCUBE that “I don’t need a dedicated person” for Cloud integration. “Integration Cloud service is very easy, point and click to integrate applications, especially within the Cloud for us,” he continued. “Cloud gives you a lot of capabilities to modernize.” But Sethi recommends using the transition to trim down and consolidate any applications that are redundant.
