The definition of what goes into Hadoop broadens | #HadoopSummit

In his talk during Hadoop Summit, Hortonworks, Inc. president Herb Cunitz compared the developments around Hadoop to the evolution of the railroad. theCUBE cohost John Furrier remarked at Hadoop Summit 2015 that he sees this fabric of standardization, as well as the expanse of business opportunity that lies beyond Hadoop.

theCUBE cohost George Gilbert agreed. “We have a certain set of repeatable solutions, whether it’s the data warehouse or the ad serving and personalization,” he said. “Yet we don’t have a huge library of solutions … we’re approaching the inflection point, but we’re not in the tornado yet.”

Leveraging infrastructure

theCUBE cohost Jeff Frick commented on the people side of the industry: “People that have left some of the early adopter companies are at new startups, so there’s another generation of startups looking for specific applications so they can leverage the infrastructure.”

The definition of what goes into Hadoop is broadening, Furrier said, which presents a challenge for the company. Where will it take things next?
