Divine intervention: Pope’s visit to Big Apple and Philly to delay Friday’s iPhone 6s deliveries
Some Apple customers who are expecting to take delivery of their pre-ordered iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus on Friday may be affected by shipping delays. Despite reports suggesting Apple may be facing supply chain issues with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, a shortage of stock has nothing to do with the expected delay.
According to MacRumors, Apple has sent emails to customers informing them that they may not receive their iPhone 6s and 6s Plus pre-orders as scheduled for Friday, September 25th due to “traffic restrictions expected for that day in New York City.” The expected traffic delays are a result of Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S.
Twitter user Sam Biddle shared a copy of the email he received from Apple informing him of the expected delay in delivery. According to the email, Apple will make Saturday deliveries to the affected areas should they be unable to make the delivery on Friday as scheduled.

According to the report, UPS and FedEX will send similar notifications to customers whose deliveries are likely to be affected by the traffic restrictions.
In a statement to MacRumors, UPS confirmed that it has been in touch with customers in the affected areas ahead of the Pope’s visit:
UPS has been in communication with customers ahead of time about the impacts of the Pope’s visit through handouts, placards on drop boxes and phone, personal and email contact.
This is very typical for large events like this where there is a lot of security requirements and limitations. UPS has worked through these types of events on multiple occasions. For those ZIP codes that are affected, other alternatives include routing deliveries through UPS My Choice to another location.
MacRumors first reported on the possibility that the Pope’s visit to New York and Philadelphia this week could delay iPhone 6s deliveries on Friday following a notice from UPS regarding restricted deliveries on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Courier services, including UPS, FedEX, and USPS will reportedly delay package pick-ups deliveries during the Pope’s visit in the following ZIP codes in New York City and Philadelphia:
New York City: 10001, 10007, 10017, 10021, 10022, 10023, 10029
Philadelphia: 19102, 19103, 19104, 19106, 19107, 19109, 19123, 19130, 19146, 19147
It appears that both UPS and FedEX may let customers route delivery of their packages to an area where deliveries are available on Friday.
Outside of New York and Philadelphia it’s business as usual and customers who pre-ordered an iPhone 6s of iPhone 6s Plus and are expecting delivery on Friday should receive their packages as planned.
