Will Splunk become the machine data platform for the industry? | #splunkconf

Splunk, Inc. may act like a startup, but it operates like the private, machine data leader that it is. Emilio Umeoka, Splunk’s VP of worldwide partners, sat down with John Furrier and George Gilbert, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Splunk .conf 2015 to discuss the company’s partner strategy moving forward.

Umeoka said that Splunk has three primary partner priorities. “For one, we focus on the key partners that can invest and grow with us,” he said. “Our second priority is to drive enablement, how we transfer knowledge at scale to our partners. Third, to build trust between our own sales teams and our partners’ sales teams.”

Clear rules of engagement factor into that trust-building priority. “Our rules of engagement are based on account segmentation and do we have the right solution partners that can really build up some of the solutions we need to address,” Umeoka explained.

IT ops platform

Furrier commented that Splunk is growing into an IT ops platform. From a developer ecosystem standpoint, Umeoka said that the company launched software development kits and developer frameworks, as well as provided sandboxes so the developers could create additional solutions.

With Splunk celebrating nearly a decade of success and continued growth, Umeoka noted that Splunk .conf 2015 is one of its strongest yet. “There is an amazing presence — 4,000  attendees and 800 partners participating,” he said. “We’ve seen some big launches on the enterprise, ITSI [IT Service Intelligence], the cloud … the company is really positioning itself to become the machine data platform for the industry.”
