New Apple Watch app tells you when to nap

From being successfully crowdfunded on Indiegogo, Inc., Beddit, Inc. has come a long way from its origins, releasing its first Apple Watch app today.

Beddit_Sleep_Tracker_Smart_in_Bed_300x200The Beddit Apple Watch app integrates with the Beddit Smart, a device that you put on your bed under your sheet, to provide round-the-clock sleep (including nap) tracking, personalized coaching and convenient at-a-glance stats on sleep quality. Starting today, Beddit Smart is available in Apple Stores worldwide and through apple.com.

Skip the wearables for sleep

Beddit is a different kind of sleep tracker, as it is not a wearable device. It uses ballistocardiography, through an ultra-thin force-sensing strip, to measure nighttime activity without any wearable sensors. The device won’t distract you while you sleep and it works well even with constant tossing and turning.

Tracking begins automatically at bedtime. It sends data on movement, breathing and heart rate to an iOS device via Bluetooth. Beddit automatically collects and analyzes sleep-related data with clinical accuracy. A patented design and proprietary manufacturing process integrates the ultra-thin piezo sensor film technology that automatically detects when a person is in the bed, creating a completely ambient experience.

The Beddit Apple Watch app is tightly integrated with Apple’s HomeKit, iOS 9 and WatchOS 2, and extends its night time tracking with daytime alerts and info on the Apple Watch. Each morning, a personalized SleepScore will be available for the user to view, which indicates overall sleep quality, as well as delivering tailored coaching for better sleep in the future. Beddit’s data is shared with Apple’s Health App and Beddit Family, the companion web app for families, groups or teams, with in-depth historical data results.

Nap on

Nap featureBeddit offers a new Nap feature that aims to help people address sleep deficit to improve their overall health and wellness. The Apple Watch app uses new WatchOS 2 features to create enhanced sleep and nap experience with the use of the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown and Accelerometer.

“A great day starts with a good night’s sleep. Anyone who wants to achieve more recognizes that poor sleep saps their energy and concentration. Finding Beddit Smart in an Apple Store can be the first step in understanding and taking control of their sleep,” said Lasse Leppäkorpi, CEO of Beddit, from the Sleep Technology Summit and Expoand Health 2.0 Conference in Santa Clara. “And now, with Apple Watch, we provide around-the-clock, accurate sleep tracking, to encourage better sleep patterns for a more rewarding day. It’s an important and effortless tool for developing a deeper understanding of personal sleep patterns.”

How it works

While you sleep

Package with iPhone Watch AppWhile you sleep and while the Apple Watch charges, Beddit automatically tracks, logs, and compiles multiple sleep data sets. This ensures that the system will wake the person up when they have achieved optimum duration of sleep, during the lighter stage of the sleep cycle. All these data points are made available on the Apple Watch as well as the iPhone.

Upon waking up

Come morning, a SleepScore is instantly available on the Apple Watch and iPhone. With the use of the Apple Watch’s digital crown or iPhone app, users will be able to dig deeper into the data and get sleep advice to be able to learn tips and tricks on how one can sleep better.

During the day

During the day, the Beddit Apple Watch app tracks when is the optimum time to take a nap to be able to rejuvenate. You can use the Apple Watch to set how long the nap is, and how you want to be awakened from the nap.
