While the majority of companies with representatives appearing at this year’s Amazon re:Invent event are those making direct use of Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) utilities, a number of them are also there thanks to their use of intermediary companies who handle the data management and transference for them. Such is the case with LeaseHawk, a phone-routing company that employed Attunity, Ltd. to take care of moving its data centers over to the AWS Cloud.
Speaking with John Furrier, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, Ken Linger, LeaseHawk’s director of enterprise systems, went over the process of having Attunity handle that process for them and the ease they’d had with maintaining it since the initial transfer.
“The hardest part about going to Amazon is getting there,” Linger said, referring to the initial uncertainty LeaseHawk had about the process of moving over its entire set of data. In particular, the real-time data coverage, which would need to be active on the new servers as soon as ties were fully cut with the old ones, was one of the most high-tension pieces of the move. “You need to have the real data live in the new center.”
However, as he went on, “Attunity helped us cloud-beam our data.” And while LeaseHawk had set aside a little over 24 hours for the data change-over, it took them less than a few seconds to get moved.
In visiting the AWS re:Invent 2015 show, Linger felt there were new opportunities to be found in AWS’ toolset beyond what they were already using. While the old way had been to bring in costly extra servers to handle sudden increases in data traffic, Amazon’s auto-scaling feature and the ability to run things in multiple zones has LeaseHawk handling its business with confidence.
