The Internet of Things (IoT) saw a lot of action last week, from a retailer taking IoT to space, a communications company launching a new IoT platform, a smart home service provider sponsoring a sports arena, to name a few developments.
Every week we round up the latest developments in the Smart World, from new developer platforms to smart city initiatives around the world. Here’s what you missed in the Smart World:
Icontrol Networks, Inc. has announced the expansion of its developer program, which addresses the issue of interoperability among connected devices. The expansion allows developers to integrate with Icontrol-powered solutions via the cloud.

Two new security cameras have launched their Kickstarter PBC campaign recently. Not only do they introduce new features for connected cameras, but they both support consumer-coding platform IFTTT, making them compatible with more connected devices in your home.
One of these security cameras looks like an owl’s head, called Ulo, while the other appears to be the cross between Google’s Nest and Amazon’s Echo, called Angee.

Vivint, Inc. has struck a partnership with Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment (LHMSE) for the naming rights of Utah Jazz’s home court for the next 10 years.
Aside from the naming rights, Vivint will also be putting in place smart solutions throughout the arena that will help improve game watching experience.

Raspberry Pi Trading Ltd. and Element14 have struck a deal to give the latter exclusive power to provide “design and manufacturing services to OEM customers to create bespoke designs based upon the Raspberry Pi technology platform.”

Cisco Systems, Inc. predicts that in the next five years, total cloud consumption will quadruple to 8.6 zettabytes with most of the traffic being generated by the enterprise moving workload of premise. The rest of the traffic will be generated by commercial cloud services as well as connected devices that utilizes cloud for data storage and automation in homes.

A survey conducted by Aeris Communications, Inc. revealed that the enterprise sees huge potential in IoT enterprise deployments but notes that there are significant challenges ahead. Of the 200 respondents, 74 percent feel that IoT provides organizations with the opportunity to better meet key business objectives while 71 percent agree that IoT will help them achieve a competitive edge.

Design studio Layer has collaborated with environmentalist non-profit organization Carbon Trust for the concept design of a new wearable technology that does not track steps or count calories.
Called Worldbeing, the purpose of this connected bracelet is to track a person’s carbon footprint in the hopes of encouraging the user to reduce it.

Lowe’s Innovation Labs announced that it has partnered with Made in Space with the goal of being the first retailer to launch a 3D printer in space. Aside from that, Lowe’s also announced that it is bringing the 3D technology of the Oculus Rift in its stores in the form of Holoroom.

Verizon Communications, Inc. announced its plans to simplify IoT adoption, including the launch of Thing Space, the company’s new IoT platform which will serve as place for developers to create apps, customers to better manage their devices, partners to market their services, and Verizon to launch integrated vertical solutions simply, in an open environment.
