A smart, non-invasive device to stop snoring
There are few things more disruptive to a good night’s sleep than a snorer. Whether you’re the culprit or it’s your partner making all the noise, a new smart solution has emerged from the connected world.
Unlike most snoring solutions, Smart Nora, Inc. is designed for comfort and minimalism.
Meet Nora
Nora is a system that consists of a pillow insert, the Nora Bedsider, the case, and an app. Together, the system is able to monitor when you are snoring and take action before your snoring wakes someone up.
Nora Bedsider
This egg-shaped device can be placed on your nightstand or anywhere near your bed where it will be able to hear if you’re starting to snore. It has a built-in microphone that enables it to capture sounds of snoring. It also features LED lights, an on/of control, a delayed start button so it doesn’t start working until after you fall asleep, and a button that allows you to adjust its sensitivity so it can trigger the pillow insert even before the snoring gets too loud.
Pillow insert
As the name implies, you put this insert under your pillow. The padded pillow insert is compatible for use on any pillow, firm or soft, and it inflates equally. It has no motors on it so there will be no buzzing or humming sound to wake you up when it inflates to stop you from snoring. The pillow insert gently moves your head when snoring is detected to change your head’s position without waking you up. It is made up of washable materials so you can wash it whenever you please.
The Case
The inflation motor is inside the case, which can be easily placed under the bed. Inside is the silent air pump, an audio receiver, a power unit and a battery. The case also doubles as a travelling case, with slots for the Bedsider and pillow insert inside.
The app
Using the app, you can get a clearer picture of your sleep activities. It calculates how quiet your night was so you can easily track the reduction of your snoring time; see or hear when Nora is activated throughout the night; get notified if your snoring could possibly be a sign of a medical condition; and you can use it to customize the sensitivity of the Bedsider so your partner or roommate no longer has to be awakened in the middle of the night.
Where to get it
At the moment, it is in the final hours of its Kickstarter PBC campaign, but you can still pledge $239 or more and expect to get your Nora by May 2016. It has already surpassed its original $100,000 funding goal and is now at $679,639 with 2,822 backers.
