Meet Pulse, the smart digital camera remote trigger

The ability to control your camera wirelessly through your smartphone definitely comes in handy when taking group shots, night shots when a slower shutter speed is required, time-lapse videos or the ever-popular selfie.

One gadget looking to be the perfect answer to controlling your camera remotely is Pulse, created by Alpine Laboratories.

The company’s Kickstarter campaign is currently running and has seen tremendous success. It reached the original $50,000 funding goal within just three hours and, with 25 days still to go, the amount pledged to date stands at $230,576 from 2,746 backers.

Improve your camera skills with Pulse

Many new cameras come with built-in Wi-Fi, allowing you to remotely pair your camera with your smartphone. This is essentially what the role of Pulse is, but it does come with some unique features not offered by other remote triggers.

The compact Pulse plugs directly into your DSLR or Mirrorless camera’s USB port and allows you to control your camera from either your iOS or Android smartphone. Measuring just 6cm x 4cm the lightweight and compact design ensures you can take it on all your trips. Bluetooth capability allows you to be up to 100ft away from your camera and, with the ability to avoid going through Wi-Fi setup, you can save time as well as your camera’s battery life.

Pulse also enjoys the benefit of being able to adjust various camera settings including ISO, aperture, and shutter speed directly from the smartphone app. You can then use the app to trigger the shutter and hopefully take a stunning photo. Once you have taken the photo, you can preview a thumbnail of the image on your smartphone.

The app will also allow you to start and stop video recording, a feature missing from many remote triggers, or you also have the ability to create amazing time-lapse videos by triggering a series of shots at variable intervals.

Pulse is compatible with more than 60 Canon and Nikon DSLR and Mirrorless cameras, allowing users to benefit from the wireless capabilities enjoyed by other brands. To check if your model is compatible, you can visit the FAQ section of their crowdfunding page.

You can get your own Pulse for $74, a discount of $25 off the expected retail price. If all goes to plan, the creators expect to start shipping Pulse in April 2016.
