As HPE Discover 2015 in London continued on its second day, the anticipation of what announcements or presentations might unfold had the momentum and excitement of the first day running strong.
John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, met to discuss what had emerged from the first day, along with their thoughts on what the rest of the conference might hold and what the coming year had in store for Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE).
One of the top points of interest was the splitting of Hewlett-Packard into HPE, handling the software side of business, and HP, Inc., taking care of hardware. Looking at the ways in which HPE might distinguish itself, the company’s sub-companies and acquisitions were a hot topic, particularly Aruba’s reinvigoration of HP’s networking strength.
Dell’s acquisition of EMC was another touchstone, as was HPE’s withdrawal from the public cloud market, each of which led to speculations about how HPE would handle further competition from companies in each of these areas.
“I feel like the deck is stacked in the favor of HP Enterprise,” said Vellante, who also felt that HPE might soon move on to major mergers and acquisitions of its own.
Furrier agreed with this assessment, saying, “I think HP[E]’s going to be in a really, really good position now, from an M&A [mergers and acquisition] standpoint.” He also noted the likelihood that start-up companies of interest will be quickly picked up and incorporated once HPE has a gameplan more firmly established.
“Doing integration for integration’s sake doesn’t matter if the product’s not driving value,” Furrier added, exploring reasons why HPE would be well-served by staying highly selective in the companies brought into its fold.
