Will a continual move toward flash tech shift workloads to internal-based storage systems? | #HPEDiscover

The future of storage was a major topic of discussion during the HPE Discover 2015 event in London. On the docket, storage trends, and Yogesh Agrawal, VP of strategy, solutions and alliances at Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE) shared his thoughts with John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team.

A shift toward flash technology

One of the big themes Agrawal talked about was a continual shift toward flash technology. This is being proven in a number of ways, including the rise of internal storage and hyperconvergence. In regards to the Dell/EMC deal, Agrawal shared that the move validates HPE’s strategy, and at the time he joined the company, he was attracted by the various assets that HP had. Further, comparing with EMC’s storage products is comfortable territory for HP, as its 3PAR product lineup is comparable and in many cases, more capable than EMC’s leading storage solutions, Agrawal contended.

The company is focusing on being more nimble, and storage is a big part of that strategy. Agrawal sees a big future for flash, which will shift workloads toward internal-based storage systems. Software-defined structure will tie these new architectures together with servers and other hardware, and will soon create a common data fabric.

Agrawal stated that HPE’s continuum of resources includes an organic network of development, reselling, OEM, partnerships and more, far beyond mergers and acquisition strategies.
