5 holiday tech gift ideas for new parents | #TechGiftGuides2015

Being a new parent brings out all kinds of emotions, including extreme happiness and pride when a child does something for the first time, frustration when Baby won’t sleep, and feeling panicked when Baby seems in pain or is sick.

Parents try their best to make sure their children are taken care of, happy, content and comfortable, but that isn’t always easy to do. But thanks to huge advancements in technology, parents are now able to take care of their bundles of joy much easier.

For those looking to get friends or family members who are parents an awesome, and helpful, gift this holiday season, check out some of the cool gadgets available today:

mamaRoo

New babies usually want to be held all the time, but this can get tiring. A baby seat called mamaRoo from 4moms (Thorley Industries, LLC) mimics different kinds of motions, such as when being swayed or bounced when carried or even the motion of a car ride that magically puts babies to sleep.

The seat has built-in sounds and is MP3 compatible, which helps soothe or distract baby, and it pairs with a smartphone via Bluetooth so users can control what motion and what speed the mamaRoo should be moving. Also, its seat can be adjusted to accommodate a baby’s preference, the fabric is removable and machine washable and the mamaRoo can support a baby weighing up to 25 pounds.

The mamaRoo is priced at $269.99 and can be purchased with extra accessories, such as a newborn insert for $29.99 and extra seat fabric for $39.99.

Mimo

MimoSudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is an unexplainable occurrence that parents should watch out for and be vigilant about. To help prevent SIDS, some doctors advise parents to not let newborns sleep on their tummies. And, they are directed to remove anything in the crib that could cause suffocation.

Though parents would want to watch their babies 24/7, they need sleep too. But a device called Mimo, by Rest Devices, Inc., can help parents get some peace of mind. Mimo can be placed in a specially designed onesie to monitor breathing, body position, sleeping temperature, activity level and whether Baby is asleep or not. All the data gathered by the sensor is sent to a parent’s smartphone, and they are immediately alerted of any changes. Plus they get to see nightly reports of how their baby slept. A Mimo starter set includes the Turtle and Lillypad (where the sensors are located) and three kimonos for 0-to-3-month-old babies for $199.

Watch Over Me Dream Station

Watch_Over_Me_Dream_StationSome babies wake up during all hours of the night, even if they have already been fed and changed. But sometimes they just need some soothing music to get them back to dreamland. Enter the Watch Over Me Dream Station, a device that creates an environment to ready Baby for bedtime, keep them sleeping, put back to sleep when they wake up in the wee hours of the night, and put them in a good mood when they wake up.

The device has a proprietary smart sensor technology that is able to detect body motion and sound, and it automatically adapts in order to provide an ideal and consistent sleep environment. It features soothing mood light, expert selected music, soothing white noise, projected light shot, and dangling toys that move in an animated wave motion. The Watch Over Me Dream Station is priced at $90.

Wishbone

Wishbone is a noncontact thermometer that connects to a smartphone via the 3.5mm headphone jack port. It’s unique Y shape makes it easy to take a temperature and see the smartphone’s screen at the same time. It takes temperatures in just two seconds, and using the app, parents can see the collected data, as well as make profiles for different users so all the data collected will be stored accordingly. Wishbone can be purchased for $49.99.

BabyNes

BabyNesThe World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding until babies are six months of age, or even longer, but if parents decide to go for formula milk or transition from breast milk to formula, there’s a device that helps ensure babies get the best mixed formula.

Called the BabyNes, the device dispenses powdered formula milk mixed with the right amount of purified water at the desired temperature. The formula milk comes in single-serve, Hermetic-sealed capsules that prevents formula from coming in contact with the machine. There are six variants (1, 2, 3-6, 7-12, 13-24, 25-36 months) suited to Baby’s growing needs. The device connects to a home’s Wi-Fi network so that a user can use their smartphone to track Baby’s feeding and growth curve, get alerts when a batch has been made, get alerts when capsules are running low and get supplies with a touch of a button.

The BabyNes machine costs $249 but is available for a 90-day, no-commitment trial. The capsules are sold per box for $59, with 26 capsules in each box, regardless of what variant is choosen. Also, parents can purchase a BabyNes capsule opener for $19 so the capsule can be used on the go.
