Is software-defined the headache medicine for Big Data? | #SparkSummit

These days everyone is in a tizzy about Big Data — its uses, its implementation, its benefits. No one wants to be left out of the party, but the complexities are proving to be as large as the promise it holds. Companies are still in the stage of figuring it all out, according to  Tendu Yogurtcu, GM of Big Data at Syncsort, Inc.

Yogurtcu told Dave Vellante and George Gilbert, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, that evolving to real-time data use is a major area of interest for enterprises, and it is something they are still in the middle of. “It’s a process within most organizations, because there are many different owners and groups and business units involved,” he said.

Apache Kafka, Spark, and the data bus to the rescue

Tendu spoke about the strides that the industry has made toward offering Data as a Service to companies. Due to the cloud and converged infrastructure, many are developing an instant gratification mindset, and data has to keep up with that.

“The concept of the data bus and Data as a Service is very well-received, and it’s simplifying the complexities around all these different types of data processes,” Yogurtcu said.
