Cloud communications company Twilio Inc. has launched a new service that enables private connectivity between Twilio and an enterprise’s on-premise infrastructure and applications.
Called Twilio Interconnect, the service allows enterprises deploying communications in the cloud to connect into Twilio’s communications platform while still meeting stringent network requirements for controlling quality and security.
Enterprises are now able to hook into Twilio through a number of types of private connections including:
Some of the potential use cases include the ability for an enterprise to implement a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Interface to add cloud voice capabilities to their existing on-premise equipment without upgrades or hardware purchases; and the implementation of elastic SIP trunking, facilitating the provision of global voice connectivity that comes with a disaster recovery, self-administration tools, API management, and SMS enabled trunks.
Twilio Interconnect provides a secure and QoS-enabled connection between an enterprise’s on-premise equipment and Twilio.
“Twilio Interconnect opens up the sophistication and network flexibility of the Twilio cloud to enterprises previously constrained from accessing the public Internet,” Twilio Vice President of Product Management Patrick Malatack said in a statement sent to SiliconANGLE. “This is a huge step for enterprises looking to move away from costly, slow-to-adapt legacy infrastructure and adopt a more agile approach to building communications that meet today’s customer demand.”
The new Twilio Interconnect service is available now at various pricing points depending on the service used.
