Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry developer Ubisoft Entertainment S.A. is opening yet another AAA game studio, but this time the game maker is turning to the Philippines for its newest location.
While the majority of the work on Ubisoft’s biggest game franchises come from the studio’s Canadian locations, particularly Ubisoft Montreal, the developer has a large number of locations across the world, with studios in Spain, France, Romania, Japan, Ukraine, and numerous others.
Many of these studios are essentially dedicated to localizing Ubisoft’s immense game catalogue for their regions, but it appears that the new Philippines studio will have a bit more responsibility than that. Ubisoft said that it plans to grow the studio’s staff from around 50 people by the end of this year to over 200 people within the next five years.
“We chose to grow in the Philippines because of its great talent pool and I am confident the new studio will meet our demanding standards,” Olivier de Rotalier, managing director of Ubisoft Singapore, said in a statement.
“Our number one priority will be to develop the high potential of our new team members to reach the level of expertise and quality needed to work on triple-A games, just as we have previously done in Singapore.”
De Rotalier will also serve as managing director of Ubisoft Philippines, but the new studio’s direct head will be Chip Go, who has worked under De Rotalier at the Singapore location for several years.
Ubisoft Philippines will be located in Santa Rosa, a lakeside town located roughly 25 miles south of the Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
