Google Calendar adds Goals feature, schedules them to fit in with your busy day

In December, Google Calendar introduced Reminders allowing you to stick to your to-do-list. Now, in celebration of its 10th birthday, Google Calendar is introducing a new Goals feature.

Follow the quick steps to set up a goal and then Google Calendar takes over to ensure your goals are schedule at suitable times for you, making changes when there are calendar conflicts or you can’t complete your goal.

While Google Calendar does the work of ensuring you constantly have time scheduled for your goal, the rest of the work is up to you to actually complete the goal.

How to set goals in Google Calendar

  • The new Goals feature is currently only available on the Google Calendar app, so you will need to download it or update your Android or iOS version of the app.
  • In Google Calendar, tap the red ‘+’ icon to add a new goal. Tap the new Goal’s option above Event and Reminder.
  • Choose your goal, for example, exercise more, build a skill, etc.
  • Answer the following questions: The type of exercise, how often you want to do it and for how long.
  • Select the best time of day for your exercise and Google Calendar will do the rest, finding the most convenient spot in your calendar for you to complete your goal.

  • If you add a new appointment to your calendar that conflicts with your goal, Google Calendar will automatically move your goal to a more appropriate time or day.

  • You can also defer a goal and Google Calendar will reschedule it. Alternatively, mark your goal as complete when you finish your workout. The more you use the new Goals feature and complete, defer or edit goals, the better Google Calendar will get at scheduling your goals at suitable times.
