Infrastructure-level innovation is key to creating value | #emcworld

When it comes to database solutions, different customers want different levels of service. Some want a top-down package, while others wish to have flexibility built into the system so they can create their own solutions.

Jason Kotsaftis, senior director of database solutions at EMC, sat down to discuss EMC’s approach to these differences with John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during EMC World 2016 in Las Vegas.

Multiple workloads, one solution

Because most customers have more than one workload in progress at any given time, it is important to create a system that can handle these workloads efficiently, and that can change as that customer’s needs change.

EMC has recognized this and focuses primarily on building solutions that integrate these changes as they occur, without the need for additional work or inordinate downtime.

Different customers, one solution

Every customer has different needs, and it is how these needs are integrated and managed at the root level that makes the difference. EMC focuses on building solutions into the infrastructure of its product so that as the customer’s needs change, the system can adapt to it. This avoids having to make repeated changes at the workload level.

“Let the database drive application and actions,” said Kotsaftis. “This can be done at the infrastructure level, so why not let it happen?”
