Microsoft has just released its new Preview Build (14342) for Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring. The preview consists of a number of updates to Microsoft’s Edge browser, while there has been a slew of bugs attended to and also some known issues mentioned in the new build.

First of all Microsoft said extensions can now be downloaded directly from the Windows Store, with all future updates coming from the store. This includes AdBlock and AdBlock Plus, although Microsoft recommends that you don’t use both at the same as this will cause issues with some sites. Other extensions currently available to download are the Pin It Button, Mouse Gestures, the Reddit Enhancement Suite, Microsoft Translator, and OneNote Web Clipper.

Edge also now includes real-time web notifications, meaning you can receive notifications from the Action Centre. For instance, if you’re using the Xbox app and you receive a message from someone using Skype for Web, you won’t miss a thing. Notably, Microsoft warns users not to turn off ALL Edge extensions. This could lead the browser not closing or context menus not functioning, instead of turning off extensions simply uninstall them, advises Microsoft. If you find yourself stuck, either turn on one or more extensions, go to Task Manager and stop all Edge processes, and then restart Edge.

According to Microsoft, another feature users have been pining for is Swipe Navigation in Microsoft Edge – using swipe to navigate back and forth. This is part of the new build and will also be part of the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile build.

Another matter of importance is the fact that Microsoft has gotten rid of its Wi-Fi Sense feature, which allowed users to share Wi-Fi networks with contacts. Microsoft stated that such a feature, apparently not in high demand, was too costly to keep going due to updating the code. However, if you have Wi-Fi Sense enabled you can continue to connect to open Wi-Fi hotspots through crowdsourcing.
