Looking forward to more agile data centers, one major hurdle is networking. No matter the project, it usually needs to connect to something else. So, the real question is: Can the network keep up?
Dominic Wilde, VP and GM of the Data Center Networking Business Unit at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE), thinks so. Wilde remarked that the future of networking lies in “changing paradigms of the past.” He continued, stating that previously the network had been “static,” and in the long-term, HPE is looking for a network that is “more responsive … [and] agile.”
The VP gave an interview with Dave Vellante (@devellante) and John Furrier (@furrier), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, at HPE Discover 2016 in Las Vegas.
Wilde commented on the recent progress of the network in terms of modernization, citing the simplification of cabling. Nevertheless, Wilde look toward a future network that is “easily transformed [and] secured.” He believes this can be achieved by “unlock[ing] the context” and “exposing it” in a way that is “consumable.”
HPE’s current focus lies on the networking strategy around the data center. Wilde has observed a trend of data center needing to “do more with less,” particularly in regards to lowering costs. He has seen a higher demand on knowledge workers.
When the conversation turned to perimeter, Wilde said, “Perimeter has become as big as the device.” “The network is the common denominator,” Wilde declared when discussing the the present state of the industry and the future integration of IoT. Thus, networking is nearly inescapable.
