iOS 10 was announced earlier this month with a variety of features including new functionality for iMessage, the ability to use split-screen mode in Safari, the option to remove default apps and various other hidden iOS 10 features.
If you downloaded the iOS 10 beta 1 that is currently available you can enjoy all these features and more on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. However, as the operating system is still in a beta version, with the final release of iOS 10 only due out in September, there are bound to be a variety of teething issues that come alongside the great new features.
One of these issues is the crashing of apps on the device that has the iOS 10 beta 1 installed. We look at some quick solutions to help you manage this issue so you can get back to enjoying the new iOS 10 features.
Your first option to try and stop apps crashing on your iPhone or iPad is to reboot your device. Hold down the Home button and the sleep/wake button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears on your device’s screen.
For any apps that are crashing on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 10 beta 1, make sure the apps are up-to-date. Go to the App Store > Updates > Update All, alternatively, you can also update each app individually.
If you have another iOS device synced to the same iCloud account, you may want to look at disabling any new app purchases or free downloads from automatically downloading.
Tap on Settings on your iPhone or iPad > iTunes & App Store > toggle Auto App Download to Off.
Regardless of whether you are using an app or not, it is constantly being refreshed in the background. If you are having issues with apps crashing then you may want to look at disabling Background App Refresh.
Tap on Settings on your iPhone or iPad > General > Background App Refresh > toggle Background App Refresh to Off.
While deleting and reinstalling the app could solve the problem, it does mean that you will also delete any app related data collected since the original install. However, reinstalling the app will also clear the app cache and free up storage space on your device.
Go to your device’s Home screen > tap and hold the app icon for a few seconds until it starts to jiggle > tap the ‘x’ on the app icon > tap Delete.
Once you have deleted the crashing app, open the App Store > tap on Search in the bottom tab bar > search for your app > press Install.
As a last resort, you can also look at resetting all the settings on your iOS device running the iOS 10 beta 1.
Tap on Settings on your iPhone or iPad > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
If none of the solutions have stopped certain apps crashing on your iPhone or iPad, or you have simply had your fair share of iOS 10 you can always follow these steps to downgrade from iOS 10 to iOS 9.3.2.
