Samsung Galaxy Note7 launch date announced & everything you need to know
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has officially announced that the Galaxy Note7 will be unveiled at its Unpacked event on August 2, less than three weeks away.
The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event will start at 11 am Eastern Daylight Time in New York, with simultaneous events taking place in Rio de Janeiro at 12 pm and in London at 4 p.m. We will keep you updated with all the news from the event as well as how you can live stream the event.
While Samsung hasn’t said much about what we can expect from the event, there are some rumors and confirmed reports making the rounds of what we can expect from the next Galaxy Note.
Confirmed name
The Galaxy Note7 is the successor to the Galaxy Note5. The reason for skipping over number six is to bring the Note7 in line with Samsung’s other devices the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, as well as to simply minimize confusion about the mobile range.
The confirmation of the name from Samsung comes nearly three weeks after Evan Blass (@evleaks), who is renowned for leaking correct tech information, released the information.

Design
All the renders of the Galaxy Note7 that have been released suggest that it will look very similar to the current Galaxy S7 edge, just on a slightly bigger scale. According to the renders, it will have the same metal edge around the sides as the S7, with a glass front and back. Our main image shows a render released by Blass. Colors include Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral, while the Note7 is also rumored to be water and dust proof and will come with an IP68 certification.
Display
Other rumors suggest that the Note7 will only come with a curved display and there won’t be a standard version. Other rumors, however, dispute this, so we will just have to wait until closer to the event or the day of the event for all to be revealed. While Blass says the display will stick to the current 5.7 inches, other rumors suggest it will be increased to 5.8 inches. While the screen size is still being debated at this stage, what there does seem to be confirmation on is that the Note7 will have a QHD, 2560×1440 resolution, and a Super AMOLED panel.

Under the hood
In addition to a rumored massive 6 GB of RAM, there is also likely to be a microSD expansion for the Note7. The Note7’s external storage could support UFS cards and offer 5x faster speeds. It was reported earlier this week that Samsung is developing a socket that would be compatible with both the UFS cards, as well as the older microSD cards.
Storage wise, rumors suggest Samsung will drop the 32 GB option and have three larger options, 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB. The Note 7 processor will be either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, a Samsung Exynos 8893 SoC or versions of both.
Software
When the Note7 launches next month is will likely include Android Marshmallow 6.0 and Samsung’s TouchWiz interface.
Battery
Rumors suggest that the Note7 will have the same size battery as the Galaxy S7 edge at 3,600 mAh while other rumors suggest it will be increased to 4,000 mAh.
Camera
Like the battery, the Note7’s camera is rumored to be the same as the S7 edge, offering users a 12 MP rear-facing camera with dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus and a 5 MP front-facing camera.
Iris scanner
In addition to a fingerprint reader, Blass has confirmed that the Note7 will also introduce an iris scanner.
S Pen
The S Pen has also been seen faintly in the renders, but is a main focus in the Samsung Unpacked event invite.
The Note 7 could see an improved S Pen with better Bluetooth LE. Also, Air Command which is activated by the stylus could also include a speaking option to enable text-to-speech translation and a dictionary option.
Samsung Focus app
SamMobile has reported that the company is also working on a Samsung Focus app that could launch with the Galaxy Note7. The Samsung Focus app is based on the BlackBerry Hub and would allow users to integrate various functions like email, contacts, calendar, and memos.
It won’t be cheap
If rumors are to be believed, the Note7 could be the most expensive flagship from Samsung. SamMobile reported earlier this week that the Galaxy Note 7 could start at €849 (approximately $939).
