

More and more venture capital is flowing into the Docker ecosystem as investors seek to capitalize on the rapidly growing demand for containers. The latest beneficiary of this trend is Codeship Inc., a provider of continuous integration (CI) technology for microservices projects that secured $7 million in financing today.
The entirely of the funding came from backers in the outfit’s home city of Boston, with Ascent Venture Partners leading the round and existing investors Sigma Prime Partners, Boston Seed Capital and F-Prime Capital returning as well. The capital will enable Codeship to finance the creation of new features for its development automation service, which promises to reduce the amount of hassle involved in managing Docker-based application projects. The platform allows teams to spin up dedicated workbenches where they can build and test their code without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure.
Every instance comes with security controls that let organizations ensure every participant in a project can only access the components they’ve been assigned to work on. The developers themselves, meanwhile, have an expansive set of automation capabilities at their disposal that span the entire application lifecycle. Codeship provides the ability to quickly retrieve Docker images from a company’s internal registry, automatically run them through pre-configured tests and quickly push the code to production if everything is determined to be in order. Users are able to customize both the verification and deployment workflows based on the specific requirements of their projects.
Its expansive feature set has enabled Codeship attract more than 2,000 customers since hitting the scene in 2011, including major brands such as WeWork Inc., Product Hunt Inc. and Sears Holdings Corporation. BostonInno reports that the startup hopes to increase its service’s popularity among large enterprises with the help of today’s funding, which provides a hint as to the kind of features it will be releasing in the coming months. The outfit expects to increase its headcount to 40-45 by the end of the year as part of the effort.
