How Windows users (and everyone else) can stay up-to-date on 2016 Olympics action
The 2016 Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony took place on Friday, August 5 and with it marks the official start of the summer Olympics. There are various ways to stay updated with Olympic highlights, results and medal counts. Ways to stay updated include Olympic highlights on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Google also have new features for the Games, including Olympic results in Google Search, video highlights on YouTube, and indoor maps for Olympic stadiums. In addition, there are also a variety of apps available, including Rio 2016, theScore, and NBC Olympics, to ensure you don’t miss out on any of the action and news.
If you are a Windows user you will be happy to know that Microsoft also has a variety of ways to ensure you don’t miss out on any 2016 Olympic highlights. We look at the various options below.
MSN Sport
The MSN Sport app comes preinstalled on Windows 10 and has been updated for the 2016 Olympics. The app comes with a dedicated section for 2016 Rio Olympic coverage, including an event schedule, news coverage, medal counts by country, etc.
The MSN Sport app is found in your app list or in the Start menu.
MSN News
Unlike the MSN Sport app mentioned above, the MSN News app doesn’t have a dedicated 2016 Rio highlights section, but Olympic news is available on the MSN homepage.
You can also manually add ‘Rio 2016’ to your interests so you don’t miss out on the Olympic action. This will work on the Windows 10 app as well as the iOS and Android versions for MSN News.
Ask Cortana
Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant, also received a backend update for the 2016 Olympics so that it can answer any of your 2016 Olympic queries, like event winners, schedules, medal tallies per country and more. In addition, Cortana will also be able to provide answers on past Olympic trivia.
Note: To use Cortana for Olympic information, you will obviously need to have Cortana set up to respond to your voice when you say “Hey Cortana.” To do this, click the search box (to the right of the Start button) to open the Cortana dialog box. Click the menu icon (three lines) in the top right-hand corner. Select Notebook > Settings > toggle Let Cortana respond to “Hey Cortana” to On.
Bing
Microsoft Bing is also using its prediction technology to predict medal outcomes, event winners and more. It also provides a unique viewing schedule of the most exciting events, updated daily, called Events to Watch.
While all of the features from Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc will ensure you stay up-to-date on Olympic highlights, read our article to see how you can live stream all the Olympic coverage even without a cable subscription.
