Cloud is changing everything, even human capital management | #OOW

The cloud is changing everything about how business runs, including human resources and how businesses interact with employees and measure their engagement. And one company plans to launch more verticals to compete in the Human Capital Management (HCM) business with the likes of Salesforce.com Inc.

Gretchen Alarcon, group VP of Product Strategy at Oracle, spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and Peter Burris (@plburris), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Oracle OpenWorld 2016 about Oracle’s plans to help organizations take HR to the next level.

HCM changing how to look at resumes

One buzzword at Oracle OpenWord is Human Capital Management (HCM), and Oracle is taking this concept to the next level through Oracle HCM Cloud, which enables HR to find and retain the best talent and increase global agility.

“It’s more about how do you look at what an employee is capable of,” said Alarcon. “[It’s also looking] not just at what does their resume says they do, but what do they really like to work with.” Is an employee capable of connecting with others? Or is he or she a knowledge guru? It’s not just connecting with their resume, but with their behaviors — and then directing them into positions that fit both their skill set and behavioral strengths with a company.

Privacy within HCM systems

Privacy becomes an issue when collecting such an extra layer of data — especially with the issue of social media like Facebook or LinkedIn.

“There are definitely some privacy questions that come about,” said Alarcon. “But there’s so much we can do just within work assignments, right? … Everything we have within HCM is social enabled. So we’re tracking social collaboration throughout our whole processes as well.”

Seeing employee’s activities and attitudes can be analyzed within HCM systems in surprising ways, she concluded.
