Cloud and mobile drive new security tech to combat hackers

Cybersecurity is a team sport. Cloud and mobile technologies have increased the ways hackers can attack a business, and no single vendor can provide a solution for every angle. Because of this, tech vendors are building ecosystems of partners to produce a multilayered approach to security.

“We’re expanding our partnerships, trying to build an ecosystem with industry-leading partners,” said Ian Foo (pictured), director of product marketing and management for data center products, solutions and Software Defined Networking at Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.

Huawei’s newest partners, announced during the RSA Conference 2017 in San Francisco, indicate the company’s efforts to secure enterprise cloud solutions.

To shed some light on security partnerships, Jeff Frick, co-host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live-streaming studio, spoke to Foo during the conference.

New threat vectors, new threats

The conversation started with a look at how the cloud has changed computer security.

Because cloud has changed the landscape, cloud service providers are looking for ways to provide capabilities that match what customers are used to in their environment, according to Foo. “What’s evolving is the way threats are addressed and recognized,” he said.

Business is looking at a widened threat surface with consumer, home access, and Internet of Things entry points, Foo said. This means information technology is seeing more openings for attacks. Securing all those entry points is very complicated.

For a true multilayered approach to security, it’s all about teamwork and partnerships, said Foo. Each vendor has to understand where their strengths are and then partner to provide the multilayered approach customers are seeking. “It’s obvious that security is now core to the business,” he said.

Security companies are seeing an acceleration in the evolution of threats. However, security is better keeping pace with those threats because enterprise is recognizing the importance of security, Foo explained.
