BIG DATA

Panoply accelerates data integration with its smart data warehouse

Startup Panoply Ltd. is making its cloud data warehouse into generally available to help companies access their data and analyze it more easily.

Panoply said its autonomous Smart Cloud Data Warehouse essentially provides data management-as-a-service capabilities that don’t require any human input to turn data into actual insights. The company further claimed its smart data warehouse can ingest, maintain and optimize up to a petabyte of data without any intervention.

The company’s data warehouse also can integrate with “all of the popular databases and services” via software development kits, so users can easily connect to any data source.

Panoply Chief Executive Officer Yaniv Leven said in a blog post that the company’s goal is to transform data extraction and preparation, which has traditionally been a very labor-intensive process, into a “frictionless self-serve experience.”

To do this, the Smart Cloud Data Warehouse platform leverages machine learning to transform large data sets into “logical tools” that can be used to help with business decision-making. With its machine learning algorithms, Panoply can learn from whatever database it’s integrated with, then tune and manage its data in such a way that it can deliver query responses and visualizations in real-time.

Here’s an overview of Panoply’s architecture:

“It’s a learning machine, forging the rules of its universe, claying the ongoing continuous chaos of information into one logical masterpiece,” Leven grandly wrote in the post. “Today we are taking the first viable step towards IT futurist Ray Kurzweil’s ‘Singularity’ concept in analytics infrastructure with Panoply.”

The company is making some big claims about the advantages its smart data warehouse provides. It said early adopters of its platform have saved a combined 8,500 analysis hours since its quiet launch in February 2017, while reducing query runtimes by an average of 95 percent.

Leven also touted Panoply’s ability to scale almost infinitely. Because the platform is built on a “serverless” architecture, meaning everything is run in Panoply’s cloud, it can scale automatically as users require, distribute workloads as necessary and handle all of the storage and performance optimizations.

“We are streamlining the mission-critical path of bringing analytical data to the value extractors in the organization,” Leven added. “There is much more to do, but we’ve raised our self-serve completion rate and now beat industry standards by a factor of three, so we’ve come a long way since the quiet launch.”

Panoply said its Smart Cloud Data Warehouse is available now, with pricing starting at just $79 per month.
