Accelerating the secure cloud journey: New Relic’s intelligent risk prediction

Technology is rapidly becoming central to the function of businesses in every industry. Companies racing to re-architect strategies and infrastructures to adapt to digital transformation often lack the insight necessary to build a sound foundation, exposing them to security risks.

New Relic Inc., a digital intelligence company, is leveraging its partnership with Amazon Web Services Inc. to help enterprises more quickly identify and fix problems, build high-performing DevOps teams, and speed up transformation projects.

“If you’re going to compete on your software … you’ve got to change a lot. Any time you’re changing something rapidly that introduces risk, New Relic de-risks all of that rapid movement by instrumentation and measuring everything in the software,” said Lew Cirne (pictured), founder and chief executive officer of New Relic.

Cirne spoke with John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, and guest host Keith Townsend (@CTOAdvisor), principal at The CTO Advisor, during the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. They discussed the tech trend pushing businesses toward the cloud and how New Relic is using AWS to help businesses transition safely and successfully.

Enabling innovation with AWS

As tech undergoes its renaissance of software development, competitive development is increasingly imperative for business. “Software was a tool to reduce costs and automate things on the back end. Now your software’s your business. If you are a large global bank, your app has more to do with your customer’s experience and satisfaction than the branch,” Cirne said. New Relic monitors the digital environment for customers, providing support that enables the rapid innovations that could otherwise result in errors, he added.

To ensure these processes are working seamlessly, New Relic collects real-time data from customers and applies intelligence to its findings to predict potential areas of instability. Privacy and safety are mission-critical for the company, as data breaches could prove fatal for any business. This accelerated pace New Relic enables is proving to customers the value of large-scale cloud adoption, according to Cirne.

“You’re talking about a pace of innovation and change that cannot be managed with a traditional QA cycle,” Cirne said.

New Relic’s partnership with AWS is crucial to its ability to support customers through digital transformation, and its success with the platform shows, Cirne stated. “When Amazon asks their customers that aren’t yet New Relic customers how much they’re consuming and how fast, they get a slower rate of adoption than they do for the cohort that uses New Relic,” he said.

For businesses interested in strategically partnering with AWS, Cirne is adamant that reinforcing the partnership ecosystem is crucial to overall success. “Don’t think about what’s in it for me, the Amazon partner. What’s in it for Amazon? How do you make them more successful? It’s in our mutual interest to go to market together,” he concluded.
