Conversica acquires Intelligens.ai to teach its sales chatbots to speak Spanish

Artificial intelligence-based sales automation company Conversica Inc. is eying an expansion into Spanish-speaking markets after acquiring another conversational AI firm called Intelligens.ai.

Conversica’s AI-based platform powers virtual assistants, or chatbots, which carry out much of the routine and mundane tasks associated with sales prospects, such as sending confirmations, offers, updates and requests for additional meetings. The platform essentially mimics a human agent while it’s performing these tasks, and it does it so well that prospective customers are usually unaware they’re dealing with a robot.

To do this, Conversica leverages a range of AI technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing so it can understand incoming messages, natural language generation to create human-like messages to speak to customers, and an inference engine that allows it to make basic decisions.

Intelligens provides similar capabilities in the Spanish language. It serves more than 40 enterprise customers in Latin America, chiefly in Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Peru. Its platform integrates with popular social media and communication channels, including Facebook Messenger, Slack and Skype.

With the acquisition, Conversica will be able to add Intelligens’ communications channels and its rich repository of AI conversations in Spanish language to its already extensive machine learning data set. As a result, Conversica’s chatbots should benefit from greater accuracy, while the company as a whole is expecting a faster pace of innovation with the addition of Intelligens’ data science and engineering teams.

“At face value, this looks most useful in Latin America, but in fact many of Conversica’s customers in the U.S. are using Spanish-language conversations and will benefit from this richer data set,” said Conversica Chief Marketing Officer Carl Landers. “We are thrilled to bring aboard new customers and partners in Latin America and extend our reach into this fast-growing market of over 400 million native Spanish speakers.”
